My Reading reflection On Whale Rider

This book is set in whangara, on the East coast of New Zealand, Where Paike is and her tipuna (ancestors) are.

For the past week I've been reading a book called the Whale Rider. Whale Rider has a lot of information in the book, first of all in the book it talks about the Whales then go along to the characters.

I’m up to chapter 4 page 24. Chapter 4 is all about Pai and her Koro Apirana. Koro Apirana does not like Moko, his name for Pai, because he thinks that she is not the chosen one to be the whale rider.

Well anyway I’m enjoying my book at the moment. The thing that I like about it that its a nice relaxing book to ready yourself for sleep. My favorite character would have to be the little girl because she speaks the truth in the story.

Whale Rider has a lot of information. I didn't know that in the book that Nana Flowers wasn't meant to marie old Koro Paka. Kore Paka was a really hater in the movie till he relies that Pia got his Whale bone from under nefe the ocean.

KAPA HAKA 2013

For the past 11 weeks i've being hard out into my kapa haka group. Were being do it in the school library it being hard work doing the haka also being the Kiaer is a lot of work for me because I have to get all the boys into two lines. Our tutor is one of the boys Mum that come every week to help use to keep in good shape.

I thought Kapa haka was going to be easy but its not, kids that muck around well our tutor is talking to us. It took a long time to get our actions right in both groups its really fun to do Kapa haka.

To be in Kapa Haka you have to have a lot of potential also grate listing. My favorite thing to do in Kapa Haka is to the Haka with my Brothers and our Sisters. I reckon our kapa haka group are gone rock on stage.

I cant wait till the night come were only got two more week till we all perform as one. Its going to be off the hock when we all do it as one. The thing we need to focus on is our worlds for our song.

Triathlon

Last Thursday my class Room 19 went to the school field to do the Triathlon with four men from Auckland Triathlon. They told us that Tri means three because there is 3 events in Triathlon and they are swimming, biking, and running.

Swimming was our very first event. Because our school does not have a school pool we used a tarpaulin, hose and soap to make it super slippery. We had fun sliding on the tarpaulin in our uniform. The best part about this event is when I slipped over and dumped my head on Richard. I enjoy getting wet, soaked and grass all over me and it was a good experience for Room 19 and I.

Biking was a lot of fun for all of us because I kept slipping of the bike paddles it’s was so slippery that I nearly cut my self because I kept slipping of the paddle. My interesting part about biking is riding as fast as I could to win the race but then I didn't win but I still had fun biking the funny part about biking is when I nearly slipped off my bike when I hopped of the bike,it was very interesting.

Running was my lest favourite event because I was tired from all the other events. Running was all right but I had a big cut on my left leg it was a little bit sourer from slipping off the
paddles so I ran super slow.

The thing that I enjoyed at the Triathlon was riding the bikes and slipping off the paddles.

The harakeke

Last week my class and I went down to Omau creek to pick  some Harakeke (flax)  when we got down to the Omau creek Miss T our teacher was talking about harakeke when we got there.

Miss T our teacher shared some rules with us ( When it rain you must not cut the Harakeke, plus do not cut it during night because you don’t no which is The mother or father or the baby. The most important rule is to not cut the baby because the whole thing will die.

First thing we all did was sat down on the these mats and just look at Miss T our teacher when she told us the rules s she gave us a knife each to go cut the harakeke.

After we cut our harakeke we came back to school to do some plating we made flowers. The flower that I was doing was I failed mine so did our teacher Mis T.

My Teina is a young boy who like’s to read, Richard is from Room 9 he’s being reading to me every Tuesday which is very good and it also help him with his reading, he some time's needs help with spelling read to him when he needs help.

Richard sometimes like to muck around well I'm reading to him. I ask him "why do you muck around so much Richard" I’m like "are you going to read? or just muck around?"
Richard replies saying that "the book is too easy"
"well ok then." We went outside to chill and read as well as enjoy the nice sun.
